Sweet and sour pork is said to have originated in several provinces in China, including Jiangsu where it is called ‘Pork in a sugar and vinegar sauce’ (糖醋里脊肉).

Consisting of bite-sized pieces of pork that is deep-fried and subsequently stir-fried in a customized sauce made of sugar, ketchup, white vinegar, and soy sauce, other ingredients like pineapple, green pepper and onion are added to give this dish some colour and texture.
